Adult Education Program

Helping Students

We are glad you are interested in continuing your education and enhancing your basic academic skills. Our program offers classes geared towards GED acquisition, skills development, or English language acquisition.

All classes are offered in 9-week terms, from 4pm to 8pm, Monday through Thursday, at standard college tuition rates. Our required orientation course is a one-credit course, and all other courses are two-credits each. When authorized by the EAC President, we have a limited number of tuition scholarships offered on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified residents.

Our adult education program benefits:

  • Small class sizes personalize learning.
  • Scholarships may be available!
  • Beautiful campus and nice facilities.
  • Friendly atmosphere promotes social learning.
  • 51% of our persistent students PASS the GED!

Program Descriptions

All of our classes require pre-enrollment placement assessments and are Open-Entry, Open-Exit. Students will be placed in the class that is expected to provide them the best chances of success, based upon their assessment results. Call 428-6260 to make an appointment for placement assessment testing.

GED Acquisition Program

Helping Students 2

Our adult education courses are primarily used to prepare students to take the General Education Development (GED) test in order to receive their high school equivalency diploma. These classes are also suitable for those who have been out of school for a long while and wish to refresh their skills, particularly in writing and math, for better job placement. Classes are given in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.

GED acquisition can literally change your life:

  • Your self-esteem will improve.
  • You will be more likely to acquire a job.
  • Your children will likely do better in school.
  • Your awareness of the society around you will increase.
  • Your pay could increase.
  • Your health, and the health of your children, will improve.

English Language Learners

We also offer English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) classes that make use of computer assisted learning to guide English language learners to thought proficiency in the language rather than simple translation. Completers of this program have raved about its subtle effectiveness. Additionally, our teachers work with students to help improve accent through verbal repetition.

Course listings can be found in the Adult Basic Skills section of the EAC catalog.

What Our Students Tell Us

"The teachers are wonderful, polite, and take their time to explain problems. Most of all, although they are surely tired, they give their patience and time with a smile."
  - Rachel Felix

"From experience I can tell you that these classes are really helpful. The people are nice, and this place is fun. I see myself learning different things every day. Science is really fun. The teachers here make learning fun and make you want to come to class. You know you’re in for something good: your GED and exercise for your self and your brain. I hated it until I came here."
  - Fidela Ochoa

"Everything was good and informative. The instructors did a great job, and I passed my test on the first attempt. I am now going into the National Guard to further my skills."
  - Billy Mealer

"It feels good coming here to a clean building, great landscape! I love the way the trees are pruned and all the little critters running around. Also, all the teachers’ welcoming smiles and “hellos” make me feel comfortable and eager to get started on school. Every time I start doubting myself, they say things to me, and I feel better."
  - Teresa Stone

"The teachers are helpful, and we are always happy and ready to learn. When I am here, being in a nice building and where it is so beautiful outside, I know that I will get all the help I need to pass my GED test. I thank you all for your help and time and for being here."
  - Jennifer Nosi

"I am here to get my GED to prove to myself, my wife, and my daughter that I can finish my high school education. My oldest daughter knows I didn’t finish school, and she hates going to school sometimes, and this will prove to her that, if I can do it, she can also. The saddest day of my life was watching my class and friends walk across the stage, and I sat in the area wanting to be there with them."
  - Jimmy Street

"In my opinion, the program that I am in is very good.  I like the schedule because I work in the morning. All the people who have been providing my classes are very professional and flexible with me. When I do not speak English they explain to me in time to take the examinations. Thanks to all for this opportunity. I aspire to leave soon speaking and writing English."
  - Rosa Rodriguez

"I’m so excited, and I’m so happy! My husband is happy too!" (Stated when she reached the highest level of Rosetta Stone. No other student has gone so far in this computer-driven program.)
  - Suzanne Ramirez

"I like Discovery Park’s GED because it helps all of the students achieve the goals. The hours were flexible for the people who worked during the day, and I liked the time I spent in the classes. I felt happy when I was there; it made me enjoy school."
  - Pedro Ramirez
