ACTIVITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS


Eastern Arizona College offers many opportunities for students to become involved in the campus community regardless of whether they live on or off-campus or are a traditional or non-traditional student. Eastern Arizona College has a variety of student activities and organizations to choose from such as clubs, intramural sports, team sports, fine arts, service projects, student publications, student government, religious organizations, and scholastic organizations, just to name a few. ALUMNI LIBRARY AND MEDIA CENTER


The Eastern Arizona College Alumni Library and Media Center serves the needs of the faculty, students and staff of the college and the needs of the adult community within Graham County in the general fields of educational, cultural, and quality recreational material. Visit the Library to use our extensive physical collection of books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, and the Media Center’s computers. To access the Library’s electronic information while off campus, including eBooks, streaming videos and databases, students and staff can use their campus email information for authentication. Additionally, the Library's website offers a variety of resources to assist in student research such as LibGuides and how-to tutorials. Individual assistance is available to all students. The Alumni Library and Media Center also provides services like laptop checkout, subject tutoring, course reserve materials, and access to 15 study rooms.

Lost & Found service. The Library provides a storage site for Lost & Found items on campus. Please contact the Library if you are looking for an item or need to drop something off. This service is available while the Library is open.

TUTORING SERVICES


Eastern Arizona College offers free unlimited tutoring to all full and part-time students. Tutoring is available in most Gen Ed subjects such as Math, Sciences, Social Sciences, Writing, and Languages. Tutors are students who have taken the courses at EAC and have been recommended by their instructor to be a student tutor. Tutors can also help with study skills improvement, test taking strategies, and memorization techniques. Tutoring is available by walk-in or appointment. Tutoring methods offered are face-to-face, Zoom, online, and by phone call (for language practice). The tutoring schedule is available on the Tutoring website. At the Library, tutors and students have access to materials and resources that are used in the classroom to make the transition from classroom to working with a tutor as seamless as possible. Tutors can provide study session groups for concept review or test prep. Tutors are friendly and encouraging while the library provides a modern and comfortable place to study and learn. Students are encouraged to visit the Student Learning Center (SLC) located in the Alumni Library early in the semester to meet the tutors and learn about services. Papers may be submitted for review at tutors@eac.edu.

    • Testing for obtaining a high school equivalency diploma.

  4. Pearson Vue:

    • A variety of certification and licensure exams.

  5. CLEP:

    • College-Level Examination Program tests to earn college credit.

  6. MeazureLearning:

    • Online proctoring and assessment services.

  7. Proctored Exams:

    • Supervised exams for various purposes.

Personal Counseling
EAC offers counseling services to help you manage various aspects of your personal and academic life:

  1. Immediate Needs:

    • Counselors can assist with urgent concerns and immediate needs.

  2. Personal or Social Concerns:

    • Support for dealing with personal issues or social challenges.

  3. Adjusting to a New Environment:

    • Help with adapting to college life and new surroundings.

  4. Confidential, Short-Term Counseling:

    • Available on a variety of subjects to provide immediate support.

  5. Referrals to Community Resources:

    • If needed, counselors can refer you to additional community resources for further assistance.

Study Skills
Students may earn college credit by enrolling in study skills/college survival classes and group counseling courses. For more information, see Counseling courses in the Course Descriptions section of this catalog or contact the Academic Advising Department.

Substance Abuse Prevention Program
The Academic Advising Department at EAC is dedicated to preventing substance abuse within the college community. Here are the key components of their prevention efforts:

  1. Assessment:

    • Ongoing evaluation of the nature and extent of substance abuse at EAC.

  2. Preventative Measures:

    • Development of strategies based on identified needs.

  3. Information Dissemination:

    • Providing information to raise awareness about substance abuse.

  4. Referrals to Community Support Agencies:

    • Connecting students with external resources for additional support.

  5. Counseling Workshop Programs:

    • Offering workshops where individuals can explore their own drug and/or alcohol dependency.

  6. SHADE (Student Health Alcohol Drug Education):

    • An alcohol education and prevention program available upon request or by referral.

Eastern Arizona College will provide admitted students with disabilities and individuals who have applied to be students (applicants) with disabilities, who meet eligibility requirements, appropriate accommodations to participate in the educational experiences offered by the College.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

Accommodations shall not be construed as a guarantee of student success. Rather, accommodations provide the opportunity to participate. Accommodations are in no way intended to devalue the end educational product. Accommodations will be provided under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title II, Postsecondary Education and the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Subpart E, Postsecondary Education.

Academic Adjustments and Accommodations
Students and applicants with learning, developmental or psychological disabilities must:1. Have been admitted or have applied to EAC, and

  1. Have been admitted or have applied to EAC, and

  2. Provide EAC with psychoeducational, psychological, psychiatric, or other appropriate diagnostic evaluation(s), as requested, to document the nature and extent of the disability. For students and applicants with learning or developmental disorders, a psychological evaluation is preferred: however, the most recent Individualized Education Plan can be used. For psychological disorders, documentation must include a psychological evaluation or documentation from the appropriate medical doctor. This documentation must be from a diagnostician with the appropriate credentials.

Students and applicants with other disabilities must:

  1. Have been admitted or have applied to EAC and

  2. Provide EAC with an evaluation or medical information or in the case of hearing and/or vision disabilities, an audiological or vision evaluation certifying the disability, and

  3. Include evidence that the evaluator has the professional credentials and/or specialized training which qualifies her/him to offer a diagnostic determination.

  4. For students or applicants requesting a sign language interpreter, the request should be forwarded to the College’s Section 504/ADA Coordinator within 3 months of the student’s planned enrollment.

Procedure to Establish an Accommodation Plan

The Section 504/ADA Coordinator is responsible for evaluating documentation provided by students and applicants seeking accommodation. Students and applicants seeking accommodation should contact the Section 504/ADA Coordinator to make an appointment and request an accommodation plan.

Accommodation Plan Components

  1. Students and applicants must submit proper documentation regarding the disability

  2. After documentation has been reviewed, the Disability Coordinator, student and instructors will participate in the interactive process to determine which accommodations will create equal access.

  3. The Disability Coordinator will create an accommodation plan which will be sent to the student, instructors and applicable parties.

  4. It is the student’s or applicant’s responsibility to ensure instructors and/or other applicable parties receive a copy of the accommodation plan.

  5. Accommodation plans must be requested each semester.

    STUDENT COMPLAINT PROCEDURE AND PROCESS


    Student complaints must be submitted in writing, signed by the student, and submitted to the College Official with Authority (Professors, Deans, Directors, Advisors) and/or forwarded to the Dean of Students. Complaints determined to be academic in nature will be forwarded to the appropriate academic dean. Complaints that may include a report of Title IX violations will be forwarded to the Title IX Coordinator. Complaints for alleged violations of civil rights not covered by Title IX Sexual Harassment will be forwarded to the Section 504/ADA Coordinator (if the complaint relates to discrimination on the basis of disability) or the Director of Human Resources/Civil Rights Equity Officer (CREO) (if the complaint relates to discrimination on any other basis). Complaints received in person, through email, or other secure delivery method through the College’s Website on the Title IX webpage or on the Civil Rights webpage, that are signed by a student will be accepted as formal complaints. A student who files a complaint must be currently enrolled as a full or part-time student or submit the complaint within one calendar year of the date of last attendance.
